Metal Matrix Composite Stiffening

Many KM Coatings are Metal Matrix Composites (MMC). These coatings are composed of a metal that forms the matrix and a second material that can be a different metal, a ceramic, or an organic compound. The second material is added to enhance the properties of the metal matrix and to achieve superior performance.

MMC stiffener ribs may be spray formed, without masking, in pre-set patterns. A wide variety of MMC's can be deposited via Kinetic Metallization. In the picture above, ribs are composed of titanium carbide (TiC) reinforced CP-aluminum.
