Al-TransÒ is a family of aluminum composite 2-phase coatings developed for a broad range of applications. The above micrograph is of an Al-TransÒ that was developed as a replacement for zinc chromate for use as a grounding strip on steel telecommunications racks. It has met the following specifications:
- Adhesion strength: ASTM C633, 10ksi (epoxy failure)
- Adhesion to substrate: passes ASTM B571
- Paint adhesion to coating: ASTM D2794, 120ft-lb
- Corrosion: ASTM B117, 5,000hrs (no rust formation)
Other Al-TransÒ coatings are being evaluated and qualified for cadmium (Cd) replacement, field repair of IVD coatings, AlClad repair and replacement, and chromic acid anodized replacement.
