The above micrograph shows a niobium (Nb) Kinetic Metallization (KM) deposition on to GrCop-84 substrates.  An aluminum jacket is diffusion bonded to the niobium deposition and forms a complete hermetic seal.  The use of the niobium KM deposition prevented the formation of detrimental intermetallics during the diffusion bonding process.
